Dimitris Ameladiotis

Elika presents the second solo show of Dimitris Ameladiotis in Athens.

Elika Gallery is pleased to present the second solo show of Dimitris Ameladiotis in Athens. Not only in this exhibition, but throughout his creative practice it is fruitful to approach his works in a manner that almost resembles an archaeological endeavor. Archaeology, is not only the research and interpretation of the world through precious finds of a past that is either meticulously embellished or unilaterally determined. Rather, it is first and foremost the approach of different civilizations through the inexpensive, functional objects that belong to everyday life. Following a rather similar logic Ameladiotis re-composes the ready-mades he finds and through the employment of sensitive binding materials introduces us to a novel interpretation of the sculptures – structures – compositions he creates.

Starting off from a three-dimensional painting practice, the artist proceeded to assembling tiny mismatched everyday objects, inviting the viewer to come close to each of his works, so as  to observe them as closely and carefully as possible. His new body of work is characterized by another two new elements: On the one hand, the artist single-mindedly, sometimes obsessively even, grapples with a single material (wood, or metal for example). On the other, in these new works that artist chooses to deal with a much larger scale, allowing the visitor to walk and move around the objects, and coexist with them in the exhibition space. The microcosm crafted by Ameladiotis, at times condensed and at others more abstracted, seems fragile and ephemeral, as is the field from which he draws his materials as well as pretexts: life.
